It is primarily used in Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) systems, pipeline metering stations, and crude oil transfer applications where accurate temperature compensation is essential for determining net standard volume. The instrument continuously receives pulse signals from a flow meter and measures the product temperature at each pulse, calculating a continuous average temperature based on the actual volume transferred.

Unlike conventional temperature transmitters that use platinum RTD sensors, the TA-1000 PLUS utilizes a high-sensitivity thermistor temperature probe, providing more than 90 times greater sensitivity than a standard 100-ohm platinum RTD. Combined with a 24-bit self-calibrating analog-to-digital converter (ADC), the instrument delivers exceptional temperature accuracy of ±0.15°F (±0.08°C) without requiring routine field recalibration. Automatic wire-length compensation further ensures measurement accuracy regardless of cable length.
The TA-1000 PLUS accepts pulse inputs from positive displacement (PD) meters, turbine meters, or other pulse-output flow meters. Each incoming pulse initiates a temperature measurement, and the instrument continuously calculates the flow-weighted average temperature, which is then used for API MPMS Chapter 11.1 temperature compensation to determine corrected net volume during custody transfer.
Available in single-channel and dual-channel configurations, the TA-1000 PLUS can monitor one or two independent metering streams simultaneously. Optional analog inputs allow the integration of additional process variables such as pressure, density, or BS&W (Basic Sediment & Water), enabling enhanced net volume calculations and improved measurement accuracy.
The instrument features an easy-to-read LCD display capable of showing multiple operating parameters, including live probe temperature, average temperature, pulse count, counts per hour, alarm status, pressure, BS&W values, volume correction factor, and calculated net volume, depending on the installed options. Configuration is performed using the front keypad, while communication with supervisory systems is provided through Modbus RTU over optional RS-232 or RS-485 interfaces.
For process monitoring and safety, the TA-1000 PLUS includes two programmable relay outputs that can activate alarms for probe failure, high or low temperature, processor faults, power failure, or analog input limits. Optional 4–20 mA analog outputs can transmit live temperature, average temperature, or other measured variables to external control systems.
The TA-1000 PLUS is available in both weatherproof (Type 4/IP66) and explosion-proof enclosures suitable for hazardous industrial environments. It operates from either 120 VAC or 8–30 VDC power supplies and is designed for reliable operation in oil & gas production facilities, refineries, pipeline systems, and petroleum terminals.
