The Floco meter operates on the positive displacement principle, measuring liquid by dividing the flowing medium into precisely known volumetric segments. As the liquid enters the meter, it is directed by a bridge assembly onto the blades of a specially designed rotor. The pressure of the flowing liquid rotates the rotor, and each complete revolution displaces a fixed volume of liquid. The total flow is determined by counting the number of rotor revolutions through a mechanical register or optional electronic pulse transmitter, providing highly accurate volumetric measurement independent of changes in fluid viscosity or flow profile.
A key feature of the Floco meter is its patented rotor design, which allows small solid particles, sand, wax, and sediment to pass through the measuring chamber without causing damage or measurement errors. Unlike conventional PD meters with tight metal-to-metal clearances, the Floco design minimizes wear and maintains long-term measurement accuracy even when handling abrasive or contaminated fluids. Bridge seals ensure that all liquid passing through the meter is measured, preventing bypass flow and maintaining measurement integrity.
The meter is completely mechanical and requires no external electrical power for basic operation. This makes it highly reliable for remote installations, mobile applications, and hazardous locations where electrical utilities may not be available. For automation and digital integration, the meter can be equipped with optional pulse transmitters, magnetic couplings, electronic registers, or proportional samplers, allowing seamless integration with flow computers, PLCs, SCADA systems, and custody transfer automation systems.
The BARTON Floco meter is available in F-500 and F-2500 series with various pipe sizes, pressure ratings, and end connections including NPT threaded, Victaulic (Gruvlock), and ANSI flanged configurations. Depending on the model, the meter accommodates flow rates from approximately 6 to 90 US gallons per minute (1.4 to 20 m³/h) and operating pressures up to 2,000 psi (138 bar), with certain configurations offering higher pressure capabilities. The meter is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from −29°C to +205°C (−20°F to +400°F) using appropriate elastomer and material selections.
To meet different process requirements, the Floco meter is available with various wetted materials, including Buna-N, Viton®, EPDM, and PTFE (Teflon®) elastomers, along with multiple bearing materials for enhanced resistance to corrosion, wear, and aggressive chemicals. These options enable the meter to handle liquids with viscosities up to approximately 25,000 cP, making it suitable for heavy crude oil, fuel oil, asphalt products, and other highly viscous fluids.
