Operating Principle
Under normal operating conditions, the Fisher 634 remains open and allows gas to flow through the system. When downstream pressure rises above the preset shutoff value, the sensing mechanism responds to the excessive pressure.
The pressure causes the diaphragm and internal mechanism to move, activating the shutoff mechanism. The valve plug then moves to the closed position, positively stopping gas flow and protecting downstream equipment.
The valve remains closed until the system pressure is returned to a safe condition and the shutoff mechanism is properly reset or serviced according to the applicable procedure.
Type 634
The Fisher Type 634 uses internal pressure registration and is typically installed between a pressure-reducing regulator and the downstream equipment. It is suitable for applications where the downstream pressure can be sensed directly within the valve assembly.
Type 634M
The Fisher Type 634M uses external pressure registration through a control line. This configuration provides greater flexibility for sensing downstream pressure and is commonly used in applications where the sensing point needs to be located separately from the valve body.
